GOD'S KALEIDOSCOPE OF LOVE

Recently, I witnessed a gathering at a local eating establishment, that not only caught my attention....it put a huge smile on my face. I was drawn to the group of seven, by the laughter that erupted from their table.

Apparently, a bee had decided to join them for brunch and some members of the group were not enthused by its presence. When two people in the group, "swiftly made their way to safety," the other diners responded by taking action and swatting at the bee, in order for their friends feel it was safe enough to return.

While watching it all unfold, I noticed that this table of young adults, was comprised of different colors of the rainbow. That  immediately captured my heart and I wanted to know more about this beautiful sight that I was blessed to behold! I HAD to meet "my new friends!"

I approached their table and introduced myself. I told them that I was a writer and poet and I wanted to capture the moment and create a written piece about it... they were all more than happy to accommodate my request!

I then learned that this Beautiful Group of Young People, are all medical students in training and they are from various parts of the globe. They were taking a break from classwork to unwind, laugh and enjoy each other's company.  Which is yet another beautiful addition to the story.
My thoughts put to words below...

                  GOD'S KALEIDOSCOPE OF LOVE

Please don't take for granted, all that God designed for your delight
Every fish, fowl, flower and creation is truly precious in His sight.

God loves everything He puts His hands to
and watches over every plan
when He created someone in His image, He formed and breathed life into man.

The Earth was God's 1st masterpiece; a pallette of brilliant colors and the most breathtaking views
why wouldn't He also bring His art to life, by making man in different shades and hues?

God created us to love and commands that we  love Him back
He formed love in every color; red, white and yellow, brown and black.

Can you imagine what would happen, if we engaged more with our hearts
and weren't divided by skin color, as hatred continues to impart?

If we could look beyond one's color and see the gifts that they possess
we would find value in those relationships and heal our world in the process.

God truly holds the power to completely heal the land...
He's just waiting for us to walk in love and pray  together as He planned.

Remember, please don't take for granted all that God designed for your delight
every skintone, shade and hue, is truly precious in His sight!

RECONNECTING...REFLECTING and RELATIONSHIONSHIP!

I wanted to share this post as a reminder that God has strategically placed amazing people in ALL of our paths and sometimes those people are called to have a significant role in our life....

My beautiful friend Amy arranged for us to spend the day spending quality time together, so that we could catch up on one another's lives! The greatest thing is: we both recognize that our relationship is based on a plan that ONLY God could orchestrate.

When my family moved to the St. Louis area, back in 1994, we visited our home that was under construction. While we stood out front taking in the amazing blessing that was being constructed before our eyes, a car pulls up and a beautiful woman with a smile as BIG as Texas, jumps out and approaches me with open arms!

I immediately reciprocated and felt that we were of kindred spirits. She introduced herself as 'My New Neighbor' and we quickly became fast friends ....we watched each others children, monitored each other's homes and developed a relationship that supercedes the definition of friendship.

Over time, we got to know each other's family members and celebrate the victories in one another's lives. We spent MANY hours, over the years...going for early morning walks, sipping coffee, laughing uncontrollably, attempting to solve the problems of the world and MOST IMPORTANTLY, praying together and talking about our LOVE OF GOD!

You see, it was GOD'S LOVE that caused her to stop that day and welcome me and my family with open arms....and it was GOD'S LOVE that prompted me to receive it.

It's GOD'S LOVE moved us to extend ourselves to the needs of each other's family and it's GOD'S LOVE that continues to sustain our relationship that was constructed upon a solid foundation, just like our 'newly constructed home.'

We now live miles apart, but distance nor time has weakened our love for one another. Today, we spent hours sipping tea AND coffee... catching up on the live's of our children...laughing uncontrollably...making yet another attempt at solving the problems of the world and MOST IMPORTANTLY praying together...for each other, for our families AND for our world!

I wanted to share this, as a reminder that God has strategically placed amazing people in ALL of our paths and sometimes those people are called to have a significant role in our life.

IF we don't extend ourselves to other OR don't welcome the gestures of kindness from others...we will miss the true treasures, gems and blessings that are woven in the threads of GOD'S LOVE!❤

I recently had an encounter with an Angel. This individual was placed directly in my path at a moment that I needed discernment on decisions, regarding my health. I needed encouragement and most importantly, I needed prayer.

I didn't know this person, before that day, but they told me right away that they were instructed by God to lay hands on me and pray...and that's exactly what they did!

It often takes a great deal of faith to walk in obedience and do as God instructs.  I'm so grateful that My Angel did. Their prayers were specific and held a great deal of power.  There are no doubts that My Angel was following the promptings of The Lord.

The steps that followed, called for me to not base my decisions on what I could see, but to walk in faith and to listen to the promptings of The Holy Spirit. My Angel's prayer planted the seed and set me on the path to victory. ❤

                   I BELIEVE IN ANGELS

Do I believe in Angels? Oh yes I do you see
I know God placed them in my path to help watch over me.

They're with me when I travel, they hover through the night
just knowing God assigned them to my care, tells me everything's alright.

There are times that life gets rugged and I need to know He's near
so God brings forth specific angels to calm all my doubts and fears.

Sometimes the angels whisper...sometimes they clearly speak
no matter what their method
they're prepared to deliver what I seek.

God's angels appear in different coverings and they take on many forms
They protect us in each season
and carry us through every storm.

Some people don't believe in angels
it's hard to see them in our midst
but when you trust and believe in the Word of God, you will know that they exist.

Our nation is in need of healing.  The healing will only happen we fill the gaps of miscommunication, misunderstanding, fear, hurt and unforgiveness...with unity, knowledge, grace, love and most importantly...PRAYER!
We can do this...when we work and pray together! ❤

                        OH GOD!

Oh God, what are our ears now hearing and what do our eyes now see?
Our hearts are filled with hurt and anguish from all of this tragedy.

Oh God, how do we begin to recover from this kind of grief and pain?
How long must people endure treatment that is cruel and inhumane?

Will wives and mothers ever rest well...
will children always live in fear?
Will difference continue to divide us and cause us never-ending tears?

Some may find discomfort in what's written... and may in fact, suggest
that having conversations about race and hate...only lead to violence and protests.

Many may find it hard to comprehend the burdens branded on the hearts
of mothers knowing all too well, the kind of fear that hatred still imparts.

Oh God, it's difficult to tell our children, that they have what it takes to change the world
when we must also teach them ways to protect themselves from hateful words and bullets that may be hurled.

Oh God, the world is in a pit of turmoil, chaos can be found at every turn
evil acts attempt to keep us from your  purpose, in hopes that we will crash and burn.

Oh God, I know that even in the midst of trouble, we will ALWAYS find you near
Your Word tells us in Matthew 18:20
that when we pray together, you WILL appear.

April is National Poetry Month and I was given the awesome opportunity of sitting on a Panel with other Poets at an event, sponsored hy and hosted at: St. Louis County Library (Headquarters).  The Panel consisted of both Local and National Artists, who shared several of their creative works. Here is a piece that I wrote, for the event.

                     POETRY IN MOTION

Poetry is an art form that trancends our thoughts, words and our dreams
It can bring people together, to state a purpose, mission or a theme.

Poetry often tells a story of how one has overcome
and delivers inspiring messages of battles being won.

Sometimes poetry decribes heartbreak and depicts images of troubled times
but words can also change the mood...bring hope and elevate the mind.

Some poems BUILD with STRONG emotion
sharing fond memories of the past
while a "play on words" may add some humor
AND can deliver BOLD contrasts.

Poetry has a certain rhythm and can change the way we feel
when words impact our thoughts and hearts..those words have power to soothe and heal.

The Art of Poetry is endless and holds a beauty all its own
it can take us on an awesome journey through the familiar OR unknown.

VALENTINE'S DAY 2017

To My David,
A poem to express my love...
MY FUNNY VALENTINE!
Our friendship goes so far back...
I can't recall the day
we discovered we were meant to be ....
we 've sure come a long way.
We began as next door neighbors...
and attended the same schools
I watched you hang out with your friends...
pretending to be cool.
But then I got to know you...
from the porch swing where we talked
we spent hours laughing about many things...
we even shared our dreams and thoughts.
I vividly remember asking God to answer my specific prayer...
it was to place my soulmate in my path...
not realizing then...that YOU WERE already there.
We've been through a lot together...we vowed "In sickness and in health"
you've stood beside me through health challenges...
your love is valued more than wealth.
I call you, "My Knight in Shining Armor"
you STILL warm my heart and make me smile...
you will forever be "My Funny Valentine"...
you've made the journey SO worthwhile!
I LOVE YOU DAVID!! ❤
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY TO ALL!! ❤

Each one of us were created with a purpose and God designed us with specific gifts, talents and passions. Some of us instictively know what we want to do or were purposed to do early on...some of us are still seeking direction on finding our true purpose.
I was blessed to reconnect with a high school classmate last year. During our visit, we talked about our God-Given gifts and passions...Julie paints....I write. Julie shared this particular piece with me and gave me the opportunity to name it and put words to it and we are now sharing it with you!
We pray that you enjoy our collaboration and that you use your gifts for the glory of God!
1 Peter 4:10 New International Version (NIV)
10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

                                         JUBILATION

In Genesis 1 God laid the foundation
He molded and shaped the earth the world and the nation
He added the sun, the moon and the stars
and designed planets, like Jupiter, Venus and Mars.
God gave meaning to darkness as well as to light
and declared ALL things precious in His pure sight.
God brightened the world with vivid colors and hues
He began with the reds and greens...yellows and blues.
God brought life to the world and so it began
and He formed in His own image and likeness...a man.
Man was created to love and God truly loved him
God wanted man's light to shine and to never go dim.
God's plan for His children is to flourish and grow
and to tell others about Him, wherever they go.
We must study His Word and protect His creation
and do so with love, peace and JUBILATION!!

I had the honor and the pleasure of being asked to present at the 19th Missouri Institute on Minority Aging Conference, this week.

I prepared and performed a monologue about a woman who sees her reflection in the mirror and faces the reality of not always recognizing the person who is staring back at her.

This year's theme for the conference was:
“I SING THE BODY ELECTRIC: CELEBRATING THE ME YET TO COME”
I was inspired by another guest speaker during an evening session, and was led to write an additional piece to share, here it is.....

I sing the body electric, regardless of my age
and I celebrate this life I've lived, with the turn of every page.

For I know that I was chosen to encourage and to love
and everyday, I strive to be more like my Heavenly Father up above.

I am grateful for God's promise that is woven in my heart
and He designed a plan and purpose for me, right from the very start.

Whatever time that I've been given...whatever goals that I've achieved
I know that I must tell the world, that God is Good and I believe.

I plan to celebrate my journey...I want to live life without fear
I will sing the body electric, throughout the rest of my blessed years.

July 2016

Life is a gift and none of us have the authority to decide to end a person's life.  Only God has the say so, over our time here on earth.  Every one of us has been burdened by the news of lives being cut short or critically wounded, by the hands of other human beings.  I am both devastated and heartbroken by the tragic loss of life and none of the circumstances are understandable.  While many attempt to search for answers to the resolve issues of racial tension, I  choose to express myself through poetry....

DEAR WORLD,

Do you know just who I am ....this person that you see?
Please Note: I did not choose my own skin color, it was chosen by God just for me.

When you see me, please don't anticipate that I intend to bring you harm
you should never fear my presence or find cause for an alarm.

When you encounter or see someone acting out that you think looks like me
Please don't decide that I'll behave that way OR assume that I agree.

Please understand, that if you look at me and hate me for my skin,
that I was created for the world to love and in God's eyes, hate is a sin.

Why do some give their eyes authority to judge my worth and the purpose for my life;
while allowing the fear and anger others hold, to help erect the walls of strife?

Do I feel the hurt, pain and mistrust fueled by the issues over race?
Yes I'm human...but I look to God for strength to put those feelings in their place.

Will life change for the better?...I guess that's really up to you
because I'm committed to love my brother
as God commands us ALL to do

I write this, with no ill-intent; not to stand out in deep protest,
but my hope is to be treated with respect...
that is my sincere request.

God placed me on earth, with the right
to live and love my fellow man
and to accomplish this with dignity
in this beautiful skin I'm in!!

The scriptures below speak to me right now, because, it is vital that we know and understand that hate is a sin and we must guard our hearts to make sure that love is always present, in our lives!! ❤

Psalm 97:10 (NIV)
10 Let those who love the Lord hate evil,
for he guards the lives of his faithful ones
and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.

Proverbs 4:23 (NIV)
23 Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it.

IN THE STILLNESS OF MY SOUL

When things become chaotic and the world attempts to take its toll
I fix my eyes upon God's goodness and seek... the stillness of my soul.

When anxiety and fear creep up
and try to take control
I go to God with all my troubles, and seek... the stillness of my soul.

When the enemy shows up with hopes to break me and keep me from being whole
 I focus on God's promise,
and seek...the stillness of my soul.

When God reveals His plan and purpose and the steps to take to reach my goal
I  pray for a successful journey and seek...the stillness of my soul.

                            A MOTHER’S HEART
                                          Mother's Day~ 2016

             A Mother’s Heart is beautiful…
             it’s powerful and strong
the love she has for her child is unconditional and lifelong.

A Mother’s Heart comes with no instructions, no manual or a book
but her faith helps her to do her best to keep a positive outlook.

A Mother’s Heart is filled with joy, the moment she gives birth
she recognizes this gift from God…has great significance on earth.

Sometimes A Mother’s Heart feels burdened and she may then shed a tear
when she sees her child struggling with disappointment, with anguish or with fear.

That’s when she pulls out all the stops and there are no delays
she takes the time to get on her knees and that is where she prays.

A Mother’s Heart may have questions and often may have doubts
as she searches for the answers to work the issues out.

But her heart is truly vibrant and she gives all that she can

the love in her heart holds no boundaries, just as God designed and planned.

As you celebrate Easter with family and friends, please remember the significance and the sacrifices made, so that we may have eternal life! Here's my latest piece.
HAPPY EASTER! ❤

          THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE

Christ made the ultimate sacrifice... He died so we could live
eternal and abundant life are gifts Our Father, chose to give.

Christ was mocked and He was beaten, then hung high upon a cross
His Mother, Mary was a witness, left to deal with her great loss.

As the hours passed, the earth grew dark and seemingly stood still
then the ground began to rumble...before the world would learn God's will.

Christ was taken from the cross that day and placed inside a tomb
It's there, that Mary learned God's purpose for the child she carried in her womb.

An angel shared The Good News...that her Son was alive again
His death stood out to change the world and the life of evey man.

I am so thankful for God's sacrifice...
He gave His Only Son
and because He did....
eternal life is ours
and all our battles have been won!

I am asking for your prayers for my family, we lost another family member this evening...that makes 3 family members in two weeks!  Although we may not understand His plan, we know that God's love will strengthen and comfort us and get us through it. We were blessed to see our cousin and our aunt last Saturday after being on the East Coast for our uncle's Homegoing Celebration. Our cousin had been following my inspirational blog and encouraged me to keep writing...she said, she needed my inspiration.  I had been told the time was drawing near and started working on a piece early this morning.  I didn't get it done in time... but after learning of her passing and also mourning the recent loss of our aunt and uncle, this is what I wrote and have to share....Thank you for your prayers!

JUST PASSING THROUGH

Lord you created us with purpose
your handiwork stands out in each debut
we should strive to be more like you
'cause we are just passing through.

You positioned us for greatness
your Word tells us what to do
we must follow your directon,
'cause we are just passing through.

You gave us each a mind with free will, perception and a point of view
trusting we would make good choices
'cause we are just passing through.

We are so grateful that you love us
we want you to know that we love you too.
We want to live life to the fullest
'cause we are just passing through.

Lord, we don't want to take for granted all you bless us with and do
we recognize our time on earth is precious
'cause we are just passing through.

Lord, help us heal when loved ones leave us
and they head home to be with you
for we know our paths will cross again
'cause we ALL ARE...just passing through.

Just a note of Thanks to all of you who have followed my personal challenge of writing a poem of gratitude for each day in November! I am overwhelmed by the encouraging messages that I received in response to the poetry.   And today, I am grateful for your friendship...support and love!❤

November 30...

Lord, I'm thankful for each person that you placed upon my path, because I know they hold a purpose and a key
each relationship has value which may not always be clear
until you say the time is right for me to see.

Some relationships begin from a familiar place and may appear to be a sheer coincidence
while others may repeat the steps of starting over, when you ordain that we may need a second chance.

Lord, you commanded in your Word that we should love one another
you also said, we can't love you, when we claim to hate our brother.

Lord, why does it seem so hard for us to give encouragement?
to build up and not tear down should be the way we represent.

I'm thankful Lord for all the amazing people that I've met
because I count them all as blessings that I shall never take for granted or forget.

Lord, I am still a work in progress and I strive to grow each day
I get my help from you Dear Lord and every friend you send my way!

Today, I'm grateful for the power to eliminate distractions, so that I can hear God's voice with clarity!

November 29...

Just listening to the noise and clutter that attempts to fill our heads
blocks out the quiet stillness that God purposed and intends.

It's when things are calm and peaceful that we can clearly hear God's voice
and when His words are heard and resonate, we should praise Him and rejoice.

Getting caught up in the chaos and being captured by the storm
we often take dysfunction lightly and we treat it as the norm.

When believing in The Father and being led by Jesus Christ
we learn to trust in what God promises and  know that His love will suffice.

Prayer calms the torrential waters and it stills the raging winds
while it showers us with perfect peace
and allows us to comprehend.

Just meditating on God's goodness and learning all about His Word
will reveal His supernatural powers to those who need to see and haven't heard.

We are always looking for that "extra moment" in our day to get things done or spend more time with those we love.  Time is a gift and we all hope to use it wisely and get all we can out of our day.
Today, I am grateful for the gift of time!

November 28....

Every day we try to navigate  through God's amazing gift of time
taking it for granted or wasting it, is considered a real crime.

Time is precious and is fleeting...it disappears before our eyes
and when miss out and don't use it... it fades and meets its true demise.

Time can be often be forgotten, it can come too soon or be too late
when time is managed well and captured
it will lead one to their fate.

Time can be a lost commodity, but also cherished by one's will
it can produce something of quality, when it appears to almost stand still.

It can become a consistant challenge, just to calculate our time
but with God's help in how we use His gift...
the results will be sublime.

Our Thanksgiving Celebration yesterday, was lovely! The entire day was energized by meal preparation, great conversation, picture taking, eating, laughing, reminiscing, and giving thanks to God through prayer!

Even as the end of the evening drew to a close, there were still lots of things to do before the night was over...putting food away and cleaning up the kitchen to name a few! It was definitely a very busy day and we were tired!  Today was a much  different story!  My husband prepared breakfast for everyone and we just kind of "eased" into our day, relaxing and enjoying having little to do! Movies were watched and naps were taken.

There were actually plans for attending a live jazz performance this evening, but after hearing a few coughs and sniffles in the room, it quickly became obvious that we all were in need of a little more rest!

So, on the 27th day of my gratitude journey, I am writing about how grateful I am for God's gift of healing and restoration. I receive these gifts, when I am obedient to His Word and I stop and rest!!

Psalm 62:1-2 “My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.”

November 27...

God, I'm thankful for the gifts that come from learning how to rest
when I'm obedient and practice this, I'll always be my best.

Resting promotes healing and restores what busyness breaks down
and time away from all the madness
brings peace in knowing you're around.

Your Word tells us, that when we lie down we should not be filled with fear
and that our sleep will be much sweeter
because you are always near.

God, I don't want to take for granted what  there is to gain from rest
it can heal, restore and refresh my soul, so that I can give my very best!

Thanksgiving is the day set aside to gather with family, enjoy quality time and create memories. But the most important part of this holiday is... us taking the time to share our gratitude for one another and give thanks to God for ALL that He has done and has given! So, here is my poem of gratitude for today!
I pray that you had a
Happy Thanksgiving!

November 26...

Lord, I thank you for another chance to show my gratitude to you
this is a time to be with family and to give you all the thanks you're due.

Today's a day to shift my focus off all my duties and  my tasks
and concentrate on thanking you for all the things that I have asked.

Lord, I never want to take for granted the many ways you've blessed my life
and how you cover, guide and keep me in the midst of pain and strife.

I know that you are always present to protect me from great harm
and I thank you for your guidance, through the wind, rain and the storms.

Lord, as I  retire for the evening
I want to take the time to say,
that I am grateful for all that you do
and how you bless me everyday!

I recently came across a video on social media that gave an illustration of Christ cleansing man of his sins.  Because I desire to know Christ more and more and studying His Word is an important part of that process, I understood right away, what the illustration depicted. I smiled and shouted out a hardy AMEN!

I then decided to scroll through the comment section, because I just knew that I would see a great deal of other people expressing their enthusiasm about the powerful message relayed in the video. But what I discovered, was an eye-opener!  I saw an overwhelming amount of negative comments about the one who saved us from ourselves...Christ!

I was saddened by what I read and did not stay there long...but it was long enough for me to ask myself, "Have I been living in a box?" I mean, I am fully aware that there are a large number of people who don't know Christ and don't believe in God, but seeing so many negative comments on one post, was way over the top!

I shared my discovery with my family and told them that I felt like I was totally out of the loop when it came to my revelation, but while talking with them, I had a "lightbulb moment!" Because I seek God more and I am growing in His Word, the circle of people that I associate with are ALL believers and that group appears to be "larger than life" to me. And because I'm not traveling in circles with those who choose not to believe, that places the non-believers in a smaller circle, which gives off the appearance that there are less and less of them!  Scripture tells us that we should surround ourselves with Godly people...

Proverbs 13:4 says, "He who walks with the wise grows wise." And Paul writes in I Corinthians 15:33, "Bad company corrupts good character." You eventually become like the people you spend the majority of your time with, so it is important to surround yourself with godly people who will lead you closer to the Lord.
So, on the 25th day of my gratitude poetry journey, I am grateful to God for giving me spiritual eyes to see and appreciate the significance in changing my circle!!

November 25...

God, I'm grateful for all that you have given me
and for your precious gift of spiritual eyes to see.

These eyes guide me through the ups and downs
and manuever me from "the lost" in crowds.

Thank you for the like-minded people that you've placed along my path
and for steering me from the ones full of hatred and wrath!

God, you've given me discernment, truth, grace and free will
and it's your plan that I choose to follow and fulfill.

I learned a valuable lesson today!  I became frustrated while working on a project that I am really enjoying. I like it so much, that I have been putting in extra planning time to ensure that nothing is missed and the final presentations go well. What I discovered today was that, even though I want the project to go off, without a hitch, there are other people and factors involved and there are no guarantees that the final result will be as I expect. I mentioned my frustration to a friend, who confirmed the fact that...I was not in control and then, I began to chastise myself about doing 100%, when it may not make a difference.  Then it came to me....no matter what anyone else does OR what factors may stand in the way...God wants ME to always give my very best... and He gave me the heart to do so.  Today, I am grateful for a heart to give my very best!

November 24....

I'm grateful God gave me a heart to give my very best
when things get tough, I seek God's help and He will do the rest

There is no need to worry, there is no need to fret
When I look to God and cling to Him, there will be no regrets.

God has great expectations, that when I trip and fall
I'll stand right up and brush myself off,
because He's my all in all.

There are times throughout my journey that I'm challenged by the world
when the enemy attempts to bring me down and his fiery darts are hurled.

But because God is my salvation and He guards me from the dark
His Word fills me with abundant light, that developed from a spark.

I'm so grateful that God loves me and I know that I am blessed
I'll continue to strive to do all I can, to give God my very best!
